I was sworn in as an Assistant District Attorney in August 1995 and was assigned to the Juvenile Section, where I handled juvenile delinquency cases and matters concerning children in need of care in West Monroe City Court and the Fourth Judicial District Court. In June 1996, I transitioned to prosecuting felony cases, a role I maintained until 2010. During this time, I conducted over forty jury trials involving various types of cases, including capital murder prosecutions. While serving as a felony prosecutor, I spent three years assigned to the Metro Narcotics Unit, focusing exclusively on prosecuting drug offenses. During that time I was recognized by Louis J. Freeh, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for my involvement in a joint state-federal narcotics investigation.
As a felony prosecutor, I handled not only drug offenses but also domestic violence cases. I educated law enforcement on conducting domestic violence investigations and implementing victimless prosecution strategies. In 2010, I was assigned to the Misdemeanor Section of the District Attorney’s Office, where I developed and implemented procedures for collecting fines, fees, and victim restitution. During this time, I played a key role in passing a law that amended Louisiana Code of Civil Procedure Article 895.5, allowing District Attorneys to initiate actions for collecting victim restitution. During that time in the Misdemeanor Section I also prosecuted cases in West Monroe City Court. For many years, I taught at the North Delta Police Academy, including approximately ten years focusing on the Fourth Amendment and Search & Seizure. I retired in February 2019.
